Relation(s)
Troy X. Musto & Bridget McMullin

A series of works exploring color, process, and relationship.
The openness of relating began with the decisions and negotiations of painting together.
The reliability of the second person to participate in the call and answer model of this painting style required both physical and mental presence. There had to be a willingness to have deeper conversations about what was working (and not working) both on the canvas and in the studio.
Each of us knows the strength the other brings to the table- Troy, though first intimidated, is admirable of Bridget’s sense of color and pattern where Bridget has always loved Troy’s fluid style of painting figures. Independently each of us was working through our own artist expressions and challenges- as some of this work was done in tandem.
Feedback and support of our individual journeys allowed us to feel deeply seen and understood by the other, a mutual feedback loop was created where neither felt criticized, but instead felt energized by having another person offering support.
Each series created conversations and challenges that evolved in the following series as negotiations and agreements to help hone in the expression of two people on one canvas.
