Living Room

Residents around Fishtown recognize my hand-painted fish signs hanging throughout the 19125 are code with about 750 now hanging in total across the US. A few have made it to the Caribbean and one all the way to China! During the day, I mix bright, vibrant colors to create these cheerful, custom pieces for neighbors who welcome them into their communities.

At Philadelphia@250: Living Room, hosted at NextFab, I'm sharing something quieter: two large-scale canvases titled "These Waves Are Mine Now." These works invite visitors to look beyond the fish they recognize and discover another side of my practice.

My process began in sketchbooks with thousands of circles during periods when drawing was the only thing that felt possible. Looking back at those early pages was difficult. So I recreated them on canvas—not erasing the marks but transforming them, layering thousands of colored dots where once there was only black ink.

Each circle was once a "Cycle of Doom," a possibility for adversity. Now, each represents the possibility of its opposite. What remained constant was the gesture; what changed was my relationship to it.

This series of work celebrates the alchemy of turning repetition into renewal.

My process began simply: drawing circle after circle, discovering grounding in the rhythm of the mark. Over time, something shifted. I started filling those forms with color—not erasing what came before, but adding to it. Layer upon layer, dot by dot, I built up something vibrant and alive.

Now, on canvas at large scale, the gesture remains. The relationship has changed. Where once there was monochrome uncertainty, now there is spectrum and light. This work honors the practice itself—the thousands of strokes that taught me patience, presence, and the quiet power of choosing color.
